To proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ in our suffering world |
To embody God's Love for all people |
To hear and give voice to creation's cry for justice and peace |
To support difficult social issues faced by Tamils, both in Canada and in Sri Lanka |
To name and confront the powers of evil within and among us |
To repent of our silence and complicity with the forces of chaos and death |
To preach and teach with the power of the living Word |
To join oppressed and troubled people in the struggle for liberation |
To work for justice, healing and wholeness of life |

January 2012 Tamil Heritage Month
Tamil Canadians Rejoice As The City Of Toronto Proclaims Tamil Heritage Month
[Toronto, ON] Tamil Heritage Month Coordinating Committee is very pleased that the Mayor of Toronto has officially proclaimed January 2012 as Tamil Heritage Month. This proclamation follows similar proclamations in Towns of Markham, Ajax and Pickering. The Tamil Heritage Month Coordinating Committee had held a reception at City Hall last year in January to kick start the process to get these official proclamations from various municipalities and the Province of Ontario. After a year of political and civic engagement, along with the hard work of so many individuals and organization, the good news and expected results are beginning to come. In addition, THM Committee is pleased to announce that many more municipalities including City of Brampton are working on the proclamation.
Started in January 2010, Tamil Heritage Month has been extremely successful in the past three years in creating pride amongst Tamils, particularly younger generation about their heritage. In addition, this effort has built enormous amount of awareness about Tamil heritage amongst non-Tamils in Canada. It was just an idea in late 2009 but now it has grown to become a widely known phenomenon.
Tamil Heritage Month aims to celebrate the history of the Tamil community and its contribution to the social, cultural, political and economic strength of Canada and the world. While recognizing the accomplishments and tracing the roots, Tamil Heritage Month provides opportunities to actively celebrate Tamil heritage and rejuvenate Tamil culture in Canada.
The declaration of January as the Heritage Month has been endorsed by over 20 prominent organizations in the Canadian Tamil Community. This year, a number of events, seminars, displays and competitions are being held across the country to mark Tamil Heritage Month.
The objectives of the Tamil Heritage Month are five-fold:

To celebrate the richness of the Tamil language and literature |
To celebrate the traditions, arts and culture of Tamils around the world |
To educate Canadians of all backgrounds about the language, traditions and history of the Tamil people |
To highlight the achievements of Tamils in various fields both in the past and the present |
To advance the growth and prosperity of Tamils |
Many organizations around the world have been in touch with the coordinating committee to discuss possibilities of expansion to other parts of North America and to the rest of the world in 2013.
