Come And See Journey To Palestine / Israel (an alternative tour)
In the Palestine Kairos Document the Christian leaders of the area have invited their sisters and brothers to "come and see" what life is like under the Israeli occupation.
Mervyn and Patricia Russell are inviting concerned people to join their alternative 18 day tour from Oct. 22nd Nov. 8th, 2012. The tour will focus on meeting people and visiting places that are at the forefront of this 60 year old dispute. This will include meeting leaders of all three faiths and women and men involved in peace movements, politics, and community organizations at such centres as Jerusalem, Bethlehem, Hebron, Ramallah, and Nazareth. We shall also visit some of the religious sites such as the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, the Church of the Nativity and the Sea of Galilee.
The tour will be organized by the Siraj Centre in Beit Sahur (www.sirajcentre.org) at a cost, depending on numbers, of approximately $4,000.00.
Please contact Mervyn and Patricia Russell at mervicia@yahoo.ca or 905.845.3250 by Monday April 16th .
Mervyn is a retired United Church Minister living in Hamilton Conference.
Justice Global Issues Team Becomes Signatory to the Darlington Declaration in Favour of Renewable Energy Options
The Darlington Declaration is an initiative by Greenpeace, opposing the rebuilding of the Darlington nuclear reactor and in fact the building of any more nuclear reactors. There are many alternative options to make our electricity systems more safe, affordable and green. The General Council has called for a moratorium and the creation of a Royal Commission.
Darlington Declaration
Dear Friend,
Please help build a safe, affordable and green electricity system in Ontario by having your organization, association, or friends, and family endorse the Darlington Declaration. Please add your voice to those opposing the construction of new reactors in Ontario and working for a greener Ontario.
You can find and endorse the Darlington Declaration here: http://stopdarlington.org/declaration/
As you are probably aware, the Ontario government's plan to build new reactors will block the long-term expansion of safer green energy options, create radioactive wastes and impose Fukushima-type accident risks on Canadian society for generations.
This is unacceptable when we have safe and affordable options.
By adding your voice to others opposing new reactors at Darlington, we can collectively tell our political leaders that We Choose Green Energy.
If you'd like to learn more about the hazards of building new reactors at Darlington or updates on the work to stop Darlington, please visit http://stopdarlington.org
If you have questions about the Declaration, please feel free to contact me at: steve.cornwell@greenpeace.org
Thanks for your support building a greener future for Ontario and Canada.
Many Thanks,
Steve Cornwell, Greenpeace

Election Kit 2011 from ISARC Interfaith Social Assistance Reform Coalition
Increasing UCC members' political engagement is important provincially and federally both at election time and in between. The emphasis is on the issues we hold as important for our society, not on partisan politics. The more we engage on what matters to us, as disciples of Jesus and as citizens, the better our governments reflect those concerns and respond to them. We have a vision of a new heaven and earth that we are called to promote and facilitate. Let's join with all those who have a part in bringing this about!
