Social Justice - Interfaith Dialogue

For Immediate Release       Wednesday, April 21, 2004

Interchurch Interfaith Committee of Toronto Conference, The United Church of Canada, welcomes His Holiness the 14 th Dalai Lama to Toronto.

On behalf of Toronto Conference of The United Church of Canada, we extend a warm welcome to His Holiness the 14 th Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso. As spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhism and Nobel Peace Prize winner, the Dalai Lama embodies the call to peace amongst all peoples. While in Toronto His Holiness the Dalai Lama will give a public lecture on the power of compassion, participate in an interfaith service, receive an honorary degree from the University of Toronto, and confer the Kalachakra Initiation for World Peace, which serves as a universal prayer for the development of the ethics of peace and harmony within one’s self and humanity. We give thanks for this special blessing to take place in Toronto and pray that it will contribute towards the healing and right relationship needed to overcome the violence being experienced in our society. We join together with other people of faith and good will in praying for peace with justice.
