Commissions & Task Groups:
Transitions Team
The Transitions Team is made up of the four individuals facilitating the new Presbytery meetings. They are:
Bob Jackson (Coordinator)
Patti Evans
Karen Hilfman-Millson
Grant Kerrr When the team was formed in January they were supplied by the Steering Group with a list of objectives for the new Presbytery meetings. These objectives are:
- Helping the new presbyters to get to know each other
- Carry out grief work and prepare for change management
- Obtain feedback on priorities within the Presbyteries – who’s interested in what areas?
- Discuss the mandated committees
- Help determine other committees that the Presbyteries would like to establish
- Governance – what does their executive look like?
- Facilitate the process of electing three representatives to the new Conference Executive
- Convey policies and processes that are developed throughout the project
- Hear the articulated vision – what’s in it (restructuring) for the Presbyteries and the Congregations
- Gather ongoing questions
- Discuss the excitement and fears going into the process
- Asset mapping/treasures within the Presbytery
- Foster a relationship with camps
- Come up with names for the new Presbyteries
- Determine when the Presbyteries are going to meet in the future
Also, each of the current presbyteries have different policies around, for example: housing allowances, part-time ministry, etc. The Steering Group discussed that these were likely to come up at the meetings. All agreed that they should use this as an opportunity to start fresh with new policies. Not all four new presbyteries must have the same policies (although this is desirable) however each new presbytery must develop their new policies.
